Strength:

More clean power than you'll ever need. Three channels give seamless soundstage across the front. Volume control on inputs.

Weakness:

Carver corp. is an unknown commodity these days.

If you can find this amp anywhere, buy it. I was powering Magnepan SMGc's with the Acurus A80 and was happy but during films I could tell the amp was running out of steam (noticeable distortion). I demo'd the Acurus A200 but found it to be extremely grainy. I got a deal through www.onecall.com and decided to give the amp a try. This has got to be the best gamble I've ever taken! This amp has enormous reserves and runs dead quiet. It is also gorgeous with the glowing dials on the front and the rack handles. Using this amp with my maggies gave me at least another half-octave on the bottom and the amp controls the panels with an iron fist. Everything is extremely detailed without being excessively bright. Running the amp in a two-channel configuration gives even more power than it's rating, so I figure I've probably got about 500W/channel at 4ohms. I couldn't be happier with the amp. While I normally get a new system every two years and sell my old stuff to friends, I plan on keeping this amp forever (knock on wood). With the volume pots on the inputs, you can even run it without a preamp which is phenomenal. I am running it using DH labs speaker cable and interconnects with a Technics SHAC500D processor.

This is amplifier is definitely a bang for the bug. It dilivers tight clean and powerful sounds beyond belief with 250 wpc 8 ohms, 400 wpc 40hms, and 800 wpc mono. This amp delivers astonishing highs, mid, and exceptionally powerful bass that will shake the roof off your house or possibly causing your lights to diminsh if they are on when the amps running. The best feature about this amplifier are the power control knobs on the back of this unit which allows the user to control the units power output.

I bought this monster $637 from www.onecall.com (Retail is $1600). I also have Carver 500 X for my rear speaks. For the price, you do not get better than this. It has three channels and gives 250 w each. PLUS THX, PLUS VALUME CONTROL. My recommendation please use Carver Preamp (CT 28 or 30) for the best sound control. Do not mix mach your Carver.

I just recieved my Carver amp yesterday and all I can say is I've never heard my Paradigm 11se MK3's sing like this before. When I auditioned my 11se's they were Bi-amped because the dealer told me that they don't come alive without enough power. THEY"RE ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!

Just an update. Being so pleased with the A753X, I went ahead and purchased the A500X from www.onecall.com. Their price was too good to pass up. This 2 channel version of the A753X now powers my NHT Superones on the rear channel. My Yamaha is being used as a preamp/decoder. It is hard to imagine having 250 watts per channel on all 5 channels. The sound is very open and natural. My demo piece is the James Taylor DVD track 13/"Shower the people". This track used in the Krell HEAT demo.

The Carver A-753X is powering Boston Acoustics VR-40 mains and VR-12 center speakers. This warm amp smoothes out the BA Lynnfield metal dome tweeters very nicely. Home Theater is very dynamic and controlled with plenty of power in reserve with the THX certification. Music is very warm and care should be taken in placing this amp with laid back or neutral speakers. For 250 watts x3 the 753x is a bargain at about 80 cents per watt.

Great unit at a great price (if there are still any around). You have to be able to tolerate some risk, as Carver (the company) is kaput, but one shop in Washington State still claims to honor warranty, but you gotta pay shipping both ways. I bought it to replace a Rotel 6-channel that I'd been running bridged...didn't like the sound out of the center (6-ohm speaker), so went looking for more beefier 3-channel. Never looked hard at Carver amps, but didn't listen either. I was more than pleasantly suprised....my home theater is out of commission for awhile so I ran the Carver in my 2-channel stereo, w/ Vandersteen 1Cs, and have absolutely no complaints. Maybe it's not the Conrad-Johnson tubed amp/preamp combo I had once, but so what. I can't wait to watch the glowing meters during my favorite movie. I give it 4 stars for sound/construction, and 5 for value...4 overall.

This amp was exactly what I needed to complete my home theater. I have a Yamaha RX-V995, Paradigm Monitor 7's left and right, and the cc-350 center. The Yamaha did not have the power needed at 85w per channel to power my speakers. I added this 3 channel amp for the front 3 speakers and what a difference. Now it sounds more like a movie theater then someones family room!! I don't play it any louder but the clarity and channel separation is so much better. The slightest sound is present in any movie. Because there is no added amplifier noise this amp produces a very natural sound. Even my THX VCR movies almost sound as good as my DVD player now. My yamaha now only powers the 2 rears. I had to jack them up from +1 to +8 to make up for the difference. It balances out nice. If you can find one get it!!I got it delivered brand new for $740
I'm gonna give it 5 speakers

Strength:

Smooth Sound with enriched detail, Sincle amp for all three front speakers in home theater setup.

Weakness:

Carver is Kaput, flimsy RCA input jack.

I am using the 753X to drive a pair of Martin Logan SL3s. I splurged not long ago and upgraded my interconnects to high end Audioquest and oh boy what a sweet sound!

Sound better than most higher priced mono blocks I've heard my speakers demo'd on.

My only beef is that the RCA 24K jack cover came off once with a AQ Ruby cable that was too tight (which I've since upgraded to Opal).

I just purchased the A753X from www.onecall.com for $637 delivered 2day Fedx. This 3 channel amp is a monster. It has no problems powering my Magnepan MMG and MMGCC1 to room filling levels. My Yamaha RXV992 powers the rear speakers. I was concerned about the sound of the Carver and the Maggies. I had auditioned maggie 1.6s with an Acurus amp at a local dealer. The price for the Carver was too good to pass up. Needless to say, I am extremely pleased with the combination of the Carver and the maggies. The sound is open and natural. My 1.6s are on order.
