Strength:

Vast power, awesome bass, grain free midrange and not agressive.Well built

Weakness:

Clowns like John who calim to be audiophiles,ha.John is nothing more then a constipated Top Ramen feeder.Enjoy your so called High-End Johny boy.

Very high class amp, natural sound with no electronic glare.Large sower supply equals huge dynamics and life like sound reproduction.

Just one demo and you will see BAT is clearly in the upper section of High-End power amps.

Normally I don't write to magazines or submit articles on the web but after reading John from Scarsdale's comments on the VK1000 I felt I had to put the record straight.
I've owned a pair of VK1000s for almost one year as part of a system comprising Well Tempered Reference T/T, BAT-VK10 Phono-stage, BAT-VK5 Preamp and Sonus Faber Extremas.

The Extremas use Dynaudio's ESOSTAR T330 tweeter which is extremely transparent but rather unforgiving, being prone to sizzle a bit when matched to electronics with anything less than exemplary performance above 2 KHz.

How does the system perform? After one year, I still switch on with a tingle of anticipation and have never yet been disappointed. After 45 minutes, the system reaches optimum performance, at which point it totally disappears and the music takes over. There's no sensation of loudspeakers or electronics. Instruments exist perfectly in a deep, wide, coherent space with the musicians' interpretation and nuances there before me to enjoy.

With some records, the sense of realism is astounding and I often catch myself turning my head in response.

I admire certain tube electronics for their ability to portray instrument timbre. With the VK1000 I get most of the timbre (the BAT VK-60 still has more) plus a full dose of rhythm, slam, microdynamics and control. The VK5/VK1000 can generate incredible excitement and emotion, moving you to tears or bouncing you out of your chair with its rhythm. This thing is serious fun and after a year, can still make me shake my head in awe!

Ask my friends what they think and they usually reply..'fantastic, who's that on drums and what a great bass player.' Too involved in the music to 'listen to the system.'

Highly recommended for burned out audiophiles who crave great music!

BAT's solid state offerings are a joke to those who appreciate natural sound. If, however, you like hi-fi sound, then be my guest. Buy them if you like a dry, grainy, wiry sound in the midrange and highs. Or connect them to a pair of dark, rich sounding speakers like the Von Schweikert's. They'll cover up the amp's deficiencies.

DUB SHOW
an Audiophile

I consider myself a very sick/serious audiophile. There is no question that when you like music as much and worse, make very considerations on the way it should sound in your home, well then certain things have to be done. The amplifier that I am going to describe is one of the very best amps out period. You really have to simply have an entirely different opinion of how music should sound to love this baby. Modestly listed at $12,000 a pair they're not for the weary. You have to be certain about what you want, and what you use as loudspeakers. I happen to use the new Von Schweikert VR 4.5's which are another story themselves. But used with the B.A.T. you've actually arrived! The very setup recieved second best sound at the Stereophile Show held back in May/June in San Fransico. Personally it should have recieved first place, but we won't go there! Let me try to keep it simple and state: A transistor single-ended(brigded),zero negative feedback, two gain stage, truly balanced design, rated at 375 watts per channel. This amp is a cross between Nelson Pass and Herman Munster! It has the heart and sould of a little single ended triode, with the brute strength of the biggest amps that come to your memory. There is a dealer in N.Y that will not say this...so I will say it. The Balanced Audio Tecnology VK 200, 500, and 1000 mono's out sell Levinson and krell COMBINDED!!! That should tell you something. In addition the Stereophile show winners are voted on by the visitors, not reviewers, which in my opinion is the way some of there audio reviews should be conducted. Oh, if you think I probably don't know what I'm talking about because I haven't tried anything else please note, I am a reviewer that compared these amps to the likes of: krell FBP 600,300(GREAT AMPS),PASS ALEPH 1.2,0 MONO'S, CONRAD JOHNSON PREMIER 8'S, 12'S,LEVINSON 333,332,20.6 MONO'S, AND THAT'S JUST TO NAME A FEW. Don't hate me if I happen to be very well liked by some very big dealers who let me borrow equipment.hot........hot........hot.....the amp hasn't got one review in the audio press yet to date, jut take my word. Actually the Audiophile Voice has a review on the Vk 500 which just hit the newstands last week. hey check with them if you don't beieve me The Dub Show
