I bought this processor second hand from ebay for thirty pounds sterling. As a budget solution, it adds a centre and two rear channels to produce Dolby Pro-Logic and DOlby Pro-Logic Enhanced as well as a few DSP modes. The sound is enjoyable and it is a good upgrade for so cheap a price. If you enjoy watching movies and dont want to get rid of your amplifier then this is worth considering - especially if you can find it cheap second hand. Even though the rear amplification is rated at 15 Watts there is certainly enough volume there for most rooms. The build quality of the unit is superb with a full metal facia and decent dials which dont feel like they will come off in your hand. The best thing about this though is that when you have had enough of your movie you can instantly turn off the unit and listen to music without any loss in your amplifiers sound quality. If you are looking for a serious surround commitment the best thing to do is to go for the more modern DSP-E492 or the DTS and DD DSP-E800 (although these are costly alternatives - £300 pounds worth). Overall if you see one of these cheap (like 30 quid from ebay) snap it up - you will be surprised. Great for a student on a students budget!
