Review 3 of 3 Summary:
I was at the Home Entertainment show last spring (2001) at the Hilton in New York. We went from room to room checking out gear. Even waited in line to hear the $300,000 system on display from The Absolute Sound deemed "the ultimate". What a joke that was! Not worth the wait at all. Anyway, going to the show was fun. But what really blew us away was the Sakura Systems room. We were taken by the rich dynamic sound coming from a solid state system. When we put our own music (Hoverphonic) on their system we were absolutely blown away by the sound. I'm not going to get carried away by describing it in detail, but in a nutshell: warmth, detail and loads of dynamics! MUSIC! No matter what was playing - classical, techno, jazz...it all just sounded amazing! Hard to believe coming from 20 watts per channel.
Just a quick side note - the reps from Sakura Systems were first rate. They played anything we wanted to hear (even our own CDs). I challenge anyone to walk into Red Rose Music's showroom and try to listen to your own music. They just don't do that. Why not? Curious....
Anyway, granted this is definately exotic gear that requires the owner/listener to forgo any assumptions about appearance or wattage desires! Being a low powered amp definately places requirements on the speakers you match up with, but with efficient speakers, you'll be hard pressed to find better sound in solid state gear unless you spends multiply amounts of what the Gaincard costs.
Kudos to Sakura Systems for their vision and their high standards to audio! Strengths:
