Bottom Line:
Having used this amplifier for more than a year my conclusion is that it is a very capable performer, but not without its quirks. It is a pleasure to use, esthetically pleasing and a wonderful solid feel to it. The remote is... ...lacking but it works. For sheer performance it is a brute; it can drive whatever speakers to very high listening levels without losing its grip. This amp is all about control, I have seldom heard such tight responsove bass reproduction. On my hard to drive spekers (86db/5Ohm) they just press on and on. On very good recordings the Amplifix will pull out details in buckets. On average to poor recordings it will sound less thrilling though; any harshness in recordings are not smoothed over at all.
The amplifix runs hot and is best left on / in standby. When switched off it takes quite a while before it gets it right back on track. All in all I have had rgeat pleasure with it but found the occasional harshness not to my liking and have started looking elsewhere for a more "forgiving" amplifier, at least when it comes to the midrange/upper frequencies where the Amplifix can be a bit "in yer face". It handles bass like no other though!

Bottom Line:
The S.A.T. Amplifix is a Swedish-made, no-nonsense integrated amplifier with a truly huge performance-to-price ratio. In my system, the Amplifix replaced a combo of some 8 years old Electrocompaniet EC3 and AW100 DMB, and brought in an enormous freshness and “air” to the sound. The music is presented clean and naturally, with fine transparency. Also the machine has an awesome sense of quality and robustness. However, the volume adjustment from the remote could be more precise.

Be aware of the rather long burn-in period. It took me a couple of months before the “edge” and roughness to the sound was completely polished away. Please have this in mind, and borrow therefore the well-used item from the dealer.

What else is there to ask for? Well, the Amplifix does not get the final word in power handling and “attack“ like you could expect of the heavier gear from giants like Krell or GamuT. But for the price tag on those beauties, you could easily get a decent used car.

I consider the Amplifix to be the outstanding candidate for anyone looking for a 2-channel amp in the upper mid-price region. If your budget is limited in some way (millionaires probably have stopped reading already...), you are much better off spending the money on loudspeakers and acoustical treatment of the listening room, than on a hefty pre-/power amplifier combo.

Bottom Line:
I will not say that Amplifix is the “One” Amp. But it is a very good amp. It may bee a little bright for some systems. But in most systems you will regard the sound as clear and neutral. And neutral is probably the best way to describe the sound of this amp. It does not add anything to the music. It is not romantic as Audio Analogue Puccini SE, it is not smooth as Accuphase 210 it is not aggressive as Arcam FMJ. It just plays the music neutral, detailed, dynamic and true. And is that not what most of us really are looking for? The quality of the amp is good and it has first-rate WBT speaker cable contacts. Matched with the CDfix (also from SAT) the combination performs excellent. You can use the same remote for both parts. The recommended burning in period for the amp is 8 weeks! I think this long burn in time is a big minus. I also think the function and control of the remote is not perfect. An example of this is that you can’t go to the next track on the CD when the remote is set to amp even if this button has no function for the amp. You must point the remote directly to the amp to make it work. But Overall this is a terrific amp. Of course there are more expensive and better amps out there. But if you can’t or don’t want to spend a fortune on your amp you should listen to the SAT Audiofix.performs excellent. You can use the same remote for both parts.
