In the current price, I bought it for 400 Euros, it probably has no competition. Beautiful timeless design, class A sound. I like this amplifier and quality design. It is just logical that the pcb are from the outside and so the aluminum coolers shade electromagnetic radiation into the transformer. Why does my Yamaha for 2500 Eut have the exact opposite? And the sound is worse than a 40 year old pioneer? Because in those times all saving and don't thinking more about sound but about DAC parameters.

Transformers a little humm. Too bad he doesn't have a remote switch on the relay. But these are just details, the sound is essential. Do not forget to upgrade capacitors, the original ones already have half and less capacity, the generated heat is about 65 degrees Celsius, especially before you write here that plays you badly. He's been 40 years old and so maintenance is more than necessary.

I got mine used. It has excellent looks and built, with two transformers, one for each channel. If you open it and look inside you will be amazed. It has three inputs, (the two pass through the volume control) & one rec output. You can select Class A or Class A/B operation. The sound is simply excellent, nothing more needs to be added.

The amp is also perfect if you need a minimal system, you can just connect directly to it your CD player without a pre amp, it would be like having a passive pre amp.

Also if you have a Home Cinema Amp that you don't want to be involved at your Hi-Fi system, just connect the front speakers out at one of the inputs of the Pioneer and keep your CD directly connected to an other input of the M-73. This way, your Home Cinema will not muddy the sound of your Hi-Fi.

Here is also a little tip: If you can find two units, bi wire and bi amp your speakers with the one unit driving the lows for both channels and the other unit driving the high for both channels. But have the unit that drives the highs at Class A and the unit that drives the low Class A/B. This way you will have one dedicated transformer working for each woofer for each channel, powerful and dynamic sound of Class A/B for lows and sweat and warm Class A sound for highs. This setup is simply a killer. You will have the full power of the amp at low end (arround 115Watt RMS at 8 Ohms at Class A/B), and the warmth of Class A at the high end without minding for the output drop since the 20 Watt RMS Class A that the M-73 has are more than enough for driving your mid & tweeter. And do not worry about input sensitivity, it is exactly the same for Class A & Class A/B operation so everything will sound at the right level...

One of the best for it's price. If you find it buy it. I have two of them (BiAmp) the mid and twiter by one of them Class A, the bass the other one Class B, Perfect sound deep bass.

I had a NAD 216 THX 2x125W it supose to have deep bass for the THX, but the m73 does a grate job.

boght this ampli (m-09) for my bose 901 series 6 to power with, can perform my system (soundcraftman eq. instead of the normal bose eq., pioneer reverb ampli SR 60, pioneer DV 525 dvd/cd player, musical fidelity X-10D,van del hul hybrid interconnects,audioquest spkr. cables). I like using the 20 W class A it can provide esp. in low volume levels and can thump the bose if you need it at high level. find one if you can still as this is one fine ampli from the elite series pioneer made

I own a M-73 as well, already 2,5 years, and I'm very pleased with it. I listen to it only in class A-B mode cause you have more power. I usually listen at a high volume, and when listened to it in class A mode, it can't keep up ( especially the bass ). Also I can't hear a difference in the both modes. It's heavy build, has excellent speaker connectors and is not expensive.

This amp is from the beginning of the 90’s. You can choose to use it either in A- or in AB-mode. I find the A-mode quite outstanding, especially if you take into account to that the amp is priced at 9000 SEK, that is about $ 1100. If you can find a used one – as I did – for about one third of that price, you have a real bargain.

If this amp was priced at $12.00, then I would give it an average score. But it is not. This amp is anemic and harsh (even when new) I tried many set-up combos and have never been able to get even average performance. I had originally sent it back thinking that something was wrong with it and after 3 times, all said that it was fuctioning properly.

My reccomendation, don't buy this amp. It stinks as with most of the other Pioneer products.
