Marantz PM-8003: Think finesse. This is a remarkably transparent sounding (Integrated) amplifier. The all-so-important upper bass/lower midrange is reproduced with transparency and natural detail that is truly high-end. In fact, bottom to top reproduction is amazingly well integrated (i.e. extremely natural, musical).

The soundstage (and tonal) layering of this amplifier is remarkably accompolished, poised and controlled.

Build quality is first rate and ergonomics excellent. Line inputs (3), (MM) phono stage, (2) tape inputs, headphone amplifier, pre-out and power amp direct connections, speaker A/B and a nicely weighted (& ergonomic) remote control complete the package. The Marantz PM-8003 integrated amplifier is a remarkably capable, nuanced performer. Highly recommended.

The pm8003 has the classic marantz sound that I have read about, easy to listen to, as they say about the higher end marantz amps. At this price level I found it very nice. One major problem for my NHT T5 speakers is that is under powered, otherwise I would have kept it. After much research I decided to go all the way up to the Marantz PM-11s2. If you have very efficient speakers, ie. over 90 dbs., you will probably be happy. The pm8003 definitely will take away some of that nasty digital harshness.

Strength:

Well made. Solid
Very clean neutral sound.
Low Distortion
Excellent Speaker terminals

Weakness:

No light or volume indicator on volume control. Difficult to determine volume at a glance.

Way better soundstage than any 5:1 or 7: 1 AV receiver.

The sound is just like "being there". Natural, clear.

Often hears sounds and instruments that I had not heard before.

Similar Products Used:

Yamaha, Harmon Kardon, Sansui, Denon.
