Sony made my day when they came out with this reciever it has no bells and whistles it was straight and to the point hook up 7 speakers plus a sub and get surround sound that's sounds adequate for small to medium size rooms its not intended to blow the doors off but it has a sound that wraps around you and the hdmi switching was decent it doesnt have that many adjustments to make but i think that's the point you get what you pay for and being on a budget and wanting some sort of surround system without breaking the bank this 7.1 reciever is for you mind you i've always been a fan of sony from the inventor of the cd format(with the help of phillips) i've been an avid fan my source components are a Sony 400 disc DVD changer Sony 300 CD changer Sony blu-ray player Sony CD recorder and a Sony DVD recorder also have a Sony 40" smart TV but recently we had a terrible storm and i lost my source components due to flash flood that put 4 feet of water in my apartment so i must start over again the only pieces that are left is my reciever (which survived the flood plus my TV)My 300 and 400 changers my CD recorder and DVD recorder was under water wont be able to find those items again also my speakers was destroyed except my surround sound speaker(which was Sony also) i'm still going to use my reciever and build around it friends tell me i need to upgrade but im not going to dont fix something that aint broke thats my motto but again good for what i paid for it |

when the 7.1came out me being on a budget for 220 dollars that can hook up seven channels my only negative is what you see is what you get there is no calibration you hook up seven speakers and a sub go to the menu on the receiver adjust levels to your liking and that's it the good thing is the HDMI switching and sound quality is good up to a volume of about 35 which is a little less than half of the 75 full volume before you hear increased distortion but up until that point you home throw in avatar or expendables its sounds decent also as a negative all the speakers should have banana plug inputs not just the front and the rest are spring loaded but once you get everything hooked up it does have a nice sound with both movies and music without a whole lot of extra features but started at the bottom I will eventually work my way to the mid point roughly around $600 dollars and it will be a sony 7.2 reciever |

I had this receiver for one day before deciding to return it, sadly. I thought I could get away with a decent amp with HDMI switching for a decently cheap price, but I neglected to think about audio quality. I sort of assumed it would be adequate for my needs.
