very pleasing balanced sound -- smooth response across the frequency spectrum -- good quality FM tuning section. I am not in a particularly strong reception area and my stations come in very strong using only a dipole antenna.

remote control is a sea of buttons. It's very complicated. And I did not need all the home theater features on this unit -- but the fellow at the Factory Outlet (who was very helpful, by the way, without being pushy in the least) told me Kenwood does not make a 2-channel receiver anymore.

I have fairly modest requirements -- I wanted a stereo receiver so I could listen to music - mostly FM broadcasts and cds - in my office. I had an older KR-A5080 Kenwood stereo receiver that was perfectly adequate, but the universal remote did not work with my Kenwood cd changer. When I drove past the Factory Outlet store on my way to the NAMM show, I saw the windows painted with big SALE signs. It was irresistable. Having purchased this unit, brought it to the office, wired it up, and discovered both the sound is better than before and the remote works with my cd changer, I am very satisfied!

This reciever had alot of what I was looking for when I was looking for one. I used to have a sony rack so this was a very serious upgrade. The price was very good for what it had. I liked the idea that it had the power I was looking for and nice features along with it (pl1 and pl2, cs1 and cs2). The looks were nice and the features were fairly easy to use, the only problem I have had with it is that sometimes when I turn it on, the surround does not kick in very quickly. Sometimes I need to turn it off and give it a few min. then turn it on again to get it to work right. Not real sure why but might take it in to get it looked at. The heat issue that I have read about hasn't been a problem as long as it is well ventilated with a nice componant rack. The remote has a lot of flaws, but easily remedied with a better universal remote, but still need a seperate remote to run my 400 disk cd changer. Not really able to hook many things up to it because of the lack of s-video connections(only 2)but that really isn't that big of a deal. The main items are essential(tv and dvd). All and all, pretty glad with my purchase.

No componenet video switching and only 2 s-video inputs, so I have to hook up my VCR and PS/2 directly to the TV.

Very nice mid-range receiver, if you can live with only 2 s-video inputs and no component video switching. Nice clean sound, plenty of options for listening modes. I feel like I got a good deal, even though by the looks of the reviews for the VR-6060 I overpaid for this model.

I bought this receiver refurbished at an official Kenwood outlet center. The price was 250. But I paid 275 because of the 2-year extended warranty costing an extra 25 bucks. This receiver is pretty cool. The sound quality is good but not the best. As with the other reviews the Dolby Pro Logic 2 has no bass management so if you do want to use it I would advise the use of a subwoofer. Also Circle Surround 2 has bass management but the highs and mids are abit lost in the process. For listening to music I suggest just to use stereo. The DSP modes are way to over done and are not pleasant to listen to. Dolby Digital and DTS sound awesome on my speakers. I use a pair of Sony’s that has a frequency of up to 50,000 hertz for super audio and DVD audio and this receiver does them justice. The power rating for the receiver is 100 watts per channel but after a couple of minutes the sound lowers so in order to listen to music or movies really loud you have to turn it up to the max which could cause some problems after long use. Also the Dolby Digital EX needs a separate amp in order to work since the receiver only has 5 channels. Setup and configuration of the speakers is relatively easy. Audio inputs are a plenty, video inputs are abit low (4 on back, 1 on front, 4 s-video), and the digital inputs are really low consisting of 2 coaxial and only 1 optical! The remote control use is abit confusing at first but you quickly get use to it. Front panel controls are upfront and simple to use as are the back inputs. The only weird thing is that the front and center channel speakers are the only ones with binding posts. The surround and B speaker plugs are spring clips. What’s up with that? The instruction manual is really confusing and hard to use for quick reference on the product. Read this with confidence. I own this product and know almost too much about home audio meaning that I know what I’m talking about.

This receiver is good after all. It produced so much clean power that even my speakers can't handle. Sound at low volume is OK, sound at high is great compared to yamaha HTTR-5540 or pioneer VSX-D411 (but pioneer only cost $160). Compared to yamaha HTTR-5540, this receiver has a lot of inputs and functionality. Yamaha is better at its sound clarity (low volume). It is just depends on how are you going to use this receiver. I recommend this receiver for movie watchers. Good product at a good price.

After my 25 year old receiver died recently, I was looking to upgrade to 21st century features. The Kenwood VR-6050 sure fits the bill. The inputs for DVD, Satellite, VHS tape and Audio are just what I was looking for. Plus all the capability for speaker configurations. Sound is terrific especially with an inline Sub-woofer.

It was time to upgrade my 13 year old Kenwood 70W reciever. (It had 1st generation surround and still works great.) Due to terrific experience with my old Kenwood and after researching the web, consulting with an audiophile, and reading reviews I purchased the VR6050. I can't believe how well this recieve drives my 15" (4-way) KLH speakers. Lots of clean tight bass with this reciever. (My old reciever tended to produce muddy bass.) Good treble response also, but limited flexibility here. This is a quality receiver that perfectly bridges the gap between qaulity "guts" like Harman/Kardon Onkyo with the higher power (for the money) and bells and whistles of a Sony.

I just bought the vr-6050 and it is ok. you see i used to work for best buy untill i got canned in july but i need to buy a new receiver since i do not have my baby anymore (yamaha rx-v2095 due to personal reasons) but i will get him back very soon. but anyway the kenwood vr-6050 is a good starter receiver. it pushes my speakers quite well, but not as well as the yamaha. but when i get a new job i will get the 6050's BIG BROTHER, the new Kenwood VR-6070!!!! Which is THX certified!! power rating is 100 X 6 while the 6050 is 100 X 5! It also does Dolby Digital EX and DTS ES and THX Surround EX as well as Dolby Pro Logic and Dolby Pro Logic II and DTS Neo 6 and my favorite Circle Surround II! so i will be back when i get the 6070. and later i will get a new yamaha receiver that will replace my Rx-v2095. it is called the rxv-3300. and one more thing this receiver came out this year not 2001.
