stay away from this company worst customer service ever and their products dont last and once they fail like mine did, they dont give a crap also, mine even has a manufacture defect in it and I cant get it fixed even after spending $65 to send it from arizona to PA, 1300 miles away, spent half the money that mine cost and purchased Onkyo THX receiver and it runs circles around these adcom's, PLEASE, PLEASE save you money and frustration and dont buy from this company, too bad what they sell they dont back it up.

This thing just like all other Adcom products flat out sucks.B*stards got over $1100 bucks out of me and will never see another dime of my cash again.This should be high end sold in K-Mart.Wish I had my other system at the time.Adcom,you need to cue up your quality control and lower your prices.

The bass is very muddy and poorly defined. The soundstage and imaging are laid way back and compressed. An 18" crash cymbal sounds like a 4" splash (with rivits). The tuner section is mediocre at best. This would be ok for a $100 preamp/tuner, but for it's MSRP it's trash. Don't even think about ruining a good system with this unit.

This piece should be dropped from the lineup, or priced what it is worth: about $149.95 I don't care if it "Served someone well"-it is as bad as an entry level Kenwood or Sansui pre amp. It does violence to signal integrity and makes good speakers sound bad.
I suppose if you are using BOSE or some other junk speakers, you can't tell anyway. You don't have to have a trained ear to INSTANTLY discern this crap from a good piece. I think NAD, and others make much better gear at a fraction of the price.
Don't be stupid enough to buy this. I laugh at anyone who is deaf enough to do so. No one with good hearing would consider this piece over anything. It is the Aspire of the Adcom lineup.

i disagree with the above - it may not be the world's best preamp - but for its price i think it served me very well untill I upgraded -

first of all...there is NO GTP555....did this individual review a GTP 500....or a GTP 550...must have as the 555 preamp has no tuner in it...
anyway, i disagree most vehemently with the gentleman who reviewd this piece...the adcom tuner preamps, while not nearly as good as their separate preamp only units, are outstanding for their price...their ability to give a reasonable peek at the world of real music in a home setting is far greater than most products that people spend tons of money on...ala sony, pioneer, yamaha, etc, etc.

i always suspect reviewers that have 2 or 3 detrimetal things to say and that's it...Anyone looking for a system that sounds like music at a reasonable price...go hear the adcom electronics for yourself....they are not perfect...nor are they an audiophile's dream...but they ARE an audiophile on a budget's dream....and VERY worthwile auditioning!!!!!

plus...i challenge ANYONE to name a competitively priced and sounding line of components with ...A. the reputation and years of "best buy" reviews and ratings that adcom has enjoyed from both mainstream and audiophile magazines as well
...and B. the reliability factor is unmatched....i know this to be true as i have been an adcom dealer for 10 years now...and i can count on two hands , without the thumbs, the number of adcom preamps and amps i have had to fix for legitimate defects.

The typo was probably meant to read "GTP550". All of the integrated Adcom tuner/preamps are indeed midfi/lowfi junk. They pollute the audio path, and are bested by a great number of peices by NAD, Acurus, Denon and...I could go on. An Adcom dealer will naturally defend his own junk. I myself auditioned the units on a variety of Signet, Ribbon, and B+W speakers. With the Adcom integrated units, (That retail over $600), the soundfields compressed and blurred like someone dropped the speakers into a pool.
Adcoms better separates are worth a listen, but AVOID the mistake of their poor sounding integrated units.
ONE star for the violence the unit does to sound, and the price it does it at. This unit is fully worth $195.00.

Can't speak about the ADCOM GTP 555, But I can certainly highly regard the GTP-565. I've been in the military for 19 years and have spent almost 10 years in Germany where we have Audio Clubs that carry many exclusive brands such as PS AuAudio, Nakamichi, Revox, ADCOM etc. The NAD components are considered trash like a Kenwood or Pioneer. Over the years I have changed over my components many times over and I have concluded at this point with my 565 mated to their Power Amp 555 I don't need anything else. The sound can't get much better than it is, without going broke trying to keep up with the Jones'es. I believe The Adcom GTP-565 is the preamp to have although the marketing strategy seems to make people believe that the current improvements are sonically noticeable. Bull! Many old true Audiophiles will tell you some old components are still as good if not better than what's out there today.
