Strength:

Easy to use, higher quality than tapes

Weakness:

media is expensive

I'm a fan of MD's over tapes, but my burner is making my MD player more and more obsolete.

The minidisc is catching on quickly in America and has been a hot item for quite a while overseas. These things are incredible. Recording CDs in incredibly easy. The many edit features allow you to title songs directly on the disk, to change the order of the songs, combine, divide, and easily erase songs. While the sound from minidiscs is slightly different, when blindly switching from CD to minidisc neither or or any of my friend could tell which was which. Sony's JE500 (This year's model is the JE510) is an excellent introductory model that sells for around $300. It's easy to use and a lot of fun.
