no treble control when using dolby pro logic

I truely enjoy this receiver, and love everything about it except the fact that i cant use the BBE button (increases clarity and treble) when dolby pro logic is on. besides that its a great buy, and it pumps out 480 watts, i got mine really cheap at onsale.com, only cost me 110 bucks!! its a great receiver for its time, but i'd go dolby digital if you have the $$$

I ditched another Aiwa receiver (the DV-30) in favor of this (reasons for that will go into that review...) In anycase, I was at first pleased with my decision, not knowing any better as this is among my first baby steps into the "real" audio world. As such, I was happy to play around with the various DSPs and the T-Bass and the motorized volume knob (I love that stupid thing), but then started listening. Nice, room-filling bass, trebles hit excellent highs, BUT NO MID-RANGE!!! Anything above 500Hz and below 15kHz was flat and almost completely drowned by the extremities. I listen almost exclusively to classical music, and it was awful. I finally understand when everyone says "listening fatigue". Just grew tired of listening, killed my enjoyment. And this was on a pair of excellent Celestion Impact 40s, which are easily worth at least 4x what I payed for this. Ugh. My suggestion: go all the way with your receiver/preamp-amp/integrated, as far as your budget allows. Thinking of getting a Yamaha DSP A-1092 (the DSP-A1 is FAR out my reach), any suggestions?
The only reason this does not get a mere 1 star is the fact that I payed an absurdly low price for it, and that my roommate, who listens to rock, absolutely loves it when the windows vibrate uncontrollably from the T-Bass. Also the Dolby ProLogic is quite passable.

STAY AWAY FROM AIWA!!! Their products are all shiny and flashy, but that is to fool the typical uninformed consumer. I am not an audiophile (at least I don't have an audiophile's budget), but I can tell when a tone is tepid and lifeless.

Relatively Low Price for a Complete Home Theatre Audio System

You get what you pay for.

Nice packaging. Easy setup. Relatively cheap price. Can get loud, but rear channel seems dead. Average movie watcher will be happy with purchase. Others won't. Test it out before you buy it.

Excellent separation with Equalizer built in!

I have listen to this receiver for about a year, as a Stereo and suround sound and and think for the money it is a fantastic sounding and enjoy it very much!

I must say I was surprised that the great sound and performance of this Aiwa Receiver, especially for the price it was a great bargain. I have first class Stereo equipment in just about every room in my very large home and purchased this Receiver for my exercise room just to have something to listen to while working out! I also used two pair of KLH AV55B Speakers and a pair off KLH V-02 speakers for surround or rear speakers. Don't use a center speaker at all because the AV55B's have 12" woofers which is just fine.
The craziest thing happen a few days ago a friend and business associate stop by to see me while I was working in my exercise room. The first thing he said to me was what kind of crazy money did I spent on the Stereo System in my exercise room because it sounded awesome. I laughed and said, you won't believe how little I spent and agreed that how great it sounded for the little money spent. Then he played with the receiver and list to music in the room for hours and left and said he would be back in a little while! A few hours later he came back with another friend of mine that I have know for many years and they asked if they could use my exercise room and I said yes and that I would be with them in a little while because I had a few something to do. To my amazement when I went up to my exercise to join them they weren't working out but playing with the stereo. Neither one of them could get over the quality and sound of the stereo system for the little money I spent. First of all of us are Music lovers and have spent unknown amounts of money on Stereo equipment over the years, you name it and we own it or have owned it, and I mean top of the line, money no limit. The bottom line is this within a few weeks they both purchased the same system, one put it in his hobby shop and the other in his home office! Was I lucky and just get a real good one? I don't think so theirs sounds just a great as mine. It may not have all the bells and whistles, but to me the quality in the sound is always better then any bells or whistles.

I'm adding a new room on in a few months and guess what? I going to put the top of the line Aiwa in it with the same KLH speakers. Aiwa go get them, keep teaching them you don't always have to spend a fortune to get awesome sound. Thanks!

I bought this unit about a year ago and, for the price I paid, I know this is a great middle class receiver. The sound coming out of the Aiwa is rather clear considering its a mid-level receiver (Dave Matthews Band "Live at Red Rock" on my Infinity SMs rocks). Two complaints though; one is the T-Bass function. It seems as though it puts out too much bass at times when it should be tighter. The second is a confusing mix up with the video outputs on the back of the receiver. Video 2 out comes out of Video 1, and vice-versa. It took about an hour of stressing and a call to Aiwa (who are very helpful)to figure this out, but once you figure it out there's no a problem. Another attribute I've noticed after one year is the reliability of this receiver. Since I am in college I get to see a lot of different recievers that get pushed to their extreme. I've seen many Sonys crash and burn when doing what my Aiwa does right now. I know of about four other similar receivers on campus and not one has ever had a problem, but I know of three broken Sonys right now and I'm sure there's more to come (my roomate has gome through four of the same type of Sony receiver!). Anyways, this receiver puts out good sound at a modest price. Four Stars
