With all the nonsense thats been said about these speakers
i have lived with them for 14 years owning dynaudio and Dali Mission Rogers and Kef

these speakers a very liveable with the do not have the bass of the dynaudio, they do not have the vocals of the Rogers, they do not have the clinical quality of the Kefs, they do not have the
problems Missions speakers have with room placement to near the wall boom taken out from the wall
bass disappears .

what they do have is to sound very musical with all music they are the speakers that keep you listening to the music .

Got these clearance stock cheap. These speakers are not true audiophile speakers. If you want to enjoy your music to the fullest then there are other better speakers out there. They produce a sound that is congested, the bass is boomy and the upper registers are hurting my ears. However if used in home cinema they are quite superb and packs a punch (they are hooked to my Denon AV amp). I'd stick to my old but trusty B&W CDM1se for my cd's.

Fast punchy bass, extended low end. Clear and fast midrange. Nice treble.

They can sound Harsh and Sharp in the treble but i think its due to my amp and Cd (Yamaha and Pioneer)

I have used my Ae109 for a couple of months now i bought dem used for 4000 skr. (about 470$). It´s a very nice speaker the finish is the best i seen under 1000$. I play all types of music on them and they work well with everything I tested (from Black Sabbath to Holst: The Planets) Sometimes they camn sound a little bright in the treble but i think it´s due to my amp and cd. I going to switch to a better amp and cd, any sugestions? Be sure to put dem a bit from the back wall becuse the upper bass can owerblow if to close.

Heavy

The 109SE's does sound very powerful with a hefty amp. I have 150 watts and a room at 3m x 4m which is fairly small but it works pretty good, not bommy at all. Finish and construction is excellent, mine has the cherry wood and looks very good, also very heavy at over 20kg.

Good bass and very fast paced.

Compared to the AE 209, sound is a bit muddy.

These are not bad speakers. They are great as an entry level system and handle most music adeptly. Unfortunately I also auditioned the AE 209s at the dealer (a more rare offering) and found the quality and sound difference was quite incredible. For about US$350 more the 209s offer good transparency and yet keeps the bass more taut. In comparision, the AE 109s were a bit muddy when cranked. The 209s also offer better build quality, with metal plinths instead of rubber, as well as an improved crossover and better internal wiring using higher quality copper. Go for the 209s if you're thinking of buying the 109s. You won't regret.

well i've been using my AE109s ($900Cdn) for a little over six months now, and i figured it's time for a little review. one thing that continues to impress me is the amount of bass coming out of that tiny LF driver... at least when you're on-axis. assuming you've taken the time to set up a half-decent listening environment you'll also find that the imaging really is excellent. the speaker really sparkles on the highs, has good clear mids and, as i said, delivers fast and deep(ish) bass... down to 37Hz on-axis. for the price i really couldn't find anything better. i would like to add a sub to the system just for the added oomph that is missing and better speaker cable would make a big improvement too. and because i hate it when people don't tell me what their setup is (otherwise a review is useless, isn't it?) the system i'm currently listening to consists of:

- AE109s (bi-wired)
- Arcam Alpha 7 CD player
- NAD C740 receiver (this should be upgraded soon... or maybe just add a power amp to the equation?)
- Gale biwirable speaker cable (8-guage)

i wonder if my system is overly british? :)

so... for the money, great speakers... overall lacking a bit in bass, otherwise a very well-built speaker.

Nice deep bass, clear mid range, clear treble, look great, for £300 (in the uk) you can't complain

I've owned these speakers for sometime now and I think they are the best part of my system. I've recently upgraded my Amp and after messing with different CD Players and DAC's, I've decided to keep the AE109's (mainly because i really like the looks/sound of them and have had a tough time finding anything better at a reasonable price)

None if it's what your looking for.

After listening to Mission floor standers (too harsh) and KEF (1 dimensional) I asked for a speaker with a big warm sound and good bottom end - they brought a set of AE109's into the listening room. I got what I had asked for and bought them. True they are not the top end of the audio spectrum but they rule the £350 to £500 market for value and if your looking for some bass umph!!! I recommend bi-amping and nothing less. If you want to lighten the bass slightly but keep the power stand them on 3/4" thick slate slabs like mine.
If you don't like a warm bassy sound - it's simple don't buy them - If you do - they are a bargin

I purchased a pair of these speakers after hearing them connected to a $15,000.00 system at my local retailer. Sales consultants and customers were commenting on the quality of sound emanating from them . The goosebump factor actually came into play on a number of recordings.
When you consider the current price ($600.00 U.S./pair retail) I consider them to be a phenomenal entry level High End bargain. I am hard pressed to remember hearing anything approaching them sonically in the sub $1,000.00 range. In addition to the great sound, they are aestetically pleasing. They enjoy a high (Wife Acceptance Factor)as they are beautifully finished and will not overpower any room.

Bottom Line you could do much worse for the money and I am unaware of any other speaker that approaches them.

I RECENTLY BOUGHT THE AE 109 SPEAKERS I FIND THE EXTREMELY CLEAN SOMETIMES A TADBRIGHT BUT THAT IS PROBABLY DUE TO SOME BAD RECORDINGS THAT I HAVE.I AM IMPRESSED WITH THE BASS RESPONSE VERY TIGHT AND REAL.THE SPEAKERS TEND TO BRING
OUT GREAT IMAGING FOR THE PRICE ($1000AUD)AND THEIR BUILD IS EXCEPTIONAL.I RECCOMEND THEM TO ENTRY LEVEL MID-FI SYSTEMS.
