The pros and the cons of the rb-1582
I bought this amp new a few years ago to drive my b&w cm10s and thus far am satisfied with the performance. However i do feel the amp is sensitive to which preamp you use .
First i used a rotel rc-1550 which i might say was reasonable. Then stepped up the game with a rotel rc-1590 with dreadfull results. Ive never had a preamp make as much noise as the rc-1590, terrible switching noise, banging cracking , etc. This preamp uses an ic for input switching , (Cheap crap) no relays Sold it after a month.
Went back to an rc-1580 demo model , with good results.
I also own a luxman c-03 pre, and ill have to say its in another league, just walks all over the rotel preamps. Problem is its old ,1980s.
With the rc-1580 the amp sounds good but not great , lacking bass mostly and can sound somewhat nasal. Its ok for light music ,violin or flute or acoustic guitar, not for anything heavy, theres no air, no movement of the speaker drivers , dull with a lot of midrange ,you dont feel the music. The amp is just boring.
With the luxman pre this amp plays deep and accurate, if you like blues/rock this is the combo. Pinkfloyds dark side of the moon sounds as it should, you feel the heartbeat , time sounds right, its all there . And as a bous the luxman has a loudness switch for low level listening.
The rotel preamps build quality (to much plastic)just isnt up to snuff and to expensive for what your getting. You can do alot better with another brand to drive the rb-1582!
So i do think this is a good amp if matched with a good preamp.

I picked up this power amp to match it with my new Magenpan MG1.7 - it is a beautiful combinations! Very lush and full sounding and although they have only been together about 4 months now they both keep getting more and more better together regardless of the type of music you use them with. I am also picking Rotels new integrated (RA-1570) to power my new MG12s in the same system! Cant wait! ;)
