I was very disappointed in these headphones. They are flimsy and the sound quality is no where where you would expect it to be in this price range. They didn't come close to the sound quality of the Sennheiser 650 or the 600.They have a sterile sound and almost no bass at all. Plus, they are made of thin aluminum with some net thing on top.

Really, don't buy these headphones. They are not a good value. Buy something else.

I own the Grado GS-1000 with silver upgraded silver wire...the SENNHEISER HD-650 with silver upgrade...the Sennheiser HD-280 with silver upgrade and have done this shootout against the SONY MDR-SA5000 using the prototype George Wright WHA-22 headphone amp. This headphone amp is one of only two ever made and is a pre-production prototype and was ready to go into production when George Wright passed away. This is the best headphone amp i have ever listened to BY FAR. It sports 4 ECC-99's 2 -12AU7's and 2 -12AX7 and I have used both TELEFUNKEN and RAYTHEON's in this amp with excellent results with both outstanding tubes.
The bottom line without dragging you all down with all kinds of adjectives........BUY THE SONY MDR-SA5000's they BLOW away anything out there including the Sennheiser HD-800.
These are the cleanest sounding most articulate, fastest heaphones ever made. PERIOD

I have been using the Sony MDR-SA5000 ever since it came out several years ago, and have been using it ever since. During that time I have compared this headphone against many other headphones in its price class, namely Sennheiser HD600, HD650, Beyerdynamic DT880, Sony MDR-CD3000 (now discontinued). To my ears, the Sony MDR-SA5000 trounces all those other headphones in terms of speed, agility and dynamic extension, although the now discontinued Sony MDR-CD3000 does come close. When you hear the Sony MDR-SA5000 side by side with the Sennheiser HD600 and HD650, the Sony makes you feel like you are listening to open, airy electrostatic speakers, while the sennheisers make you feel like you are listening to typical veiled boxed speakers. I have heard Sennheiser has made some major changes in their new flagship HD800 headphone. But the Sennheiser HD800 costs over four times as much as the Sony MDR-SA5000. Until the Sennheiser HD800 comes down in price from its stratospheric price level, I am sticking with my Sony MDR-SA5000.
